I’m getting disconnected from servers with the error “connection lost (timed out)”!

Description of issue

This issue is typically caused by a variety of variables. Notably, issues can occur on the side of the player (client), or the host (server). The most important way to figure out which one applies, is to communicate with other members of the community server you received this error on. Do other players experience the same issue? Is it limited to just one community? If so, this community may be experiencing a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, or other issues (e.g. hardware, plugins).

Should this issue occur only to you, or across multiple servers. Further debugging will be required.

Ensure your PC meets our minimum system requirements. Your PC specs should match or be more powerful than the current minimum system requirements on our Steam page. Anything less powerful risks having issues occur simply due to your hardware not being able to handle running SCP:SL. Additionally, please ensure you are on an up-to-date version of Windows 10/11. Other operating systems are not supported at this time.

Resolutions

  • Perform a Clean Reinstall.
  • Move the game to another drive. You can read Steam's guide here.
  • Attempt to connect to the internet using an Ethernet cable, if you're currently using a wireless network.
  • Attempt to play SCP:SL with a VPN of your choice. Here is our list of VPNs. Should you be able to connect via a VPN, the issue lies with your internet connection - you should contact your internet service provider for further assistance.

I still have issues!
