I'm getting low FPS/Limited FPS

There are multiple causes for low FPS, This will walk you through all possible solutions.

1. Clean Reinstall

Try performing a clean reinstall of the game. Guide here.

2. Graphics API

As of 14.1 the new standard graphics API used in game is DirectX12.

1. In-game navigate to "Settings" -> "Video".
2. Scroll down to "Graphics API" and switch it to "DirectX12".

3. Switch GPU

If you have multiple GPUs the game could be using the wrong one, below is a guide to switching that:

1. Navigate to Windows Settings -> "System" -> "Display" -> "Graphics".
2. Search for SCPSL.exe in the list, then click the drop down arrow for the box (circled in red in the image below).
3. Set your preferred GPU in the "GPU preference" section.

4. Third Party Programs

These are known to cause FPS issue with the game.

5. Vsync & FPS limiter

Vsync should be turned off in game, and FPS limiter should be set to the monitors refresh rate. Guide below;

1. Navigate to "Settings" in game -> "Video".
2. Change "V-Sync" to "Disabled".
3. Change "FPS Limiter" to "Disabled" or enable it and properly set "Max Frame Rate" (Setting below FPS Limiter).

6. Screen Resolution

Your resolution in game should be set to your monitors resolution. Guide below;

1. Navigate to 'Settings" in game -> "Video".
2. Change "Resolution" to your monitors actual resolution.

7. Changing Windows Power Plan

Your Windows Power Plan may be causing the issue, this can be especially true on laptops. Guide below;

1. Press Windows button + R on your keyboard.
   • You can also search for "Run" in the Windows search bar.
2. In the run prompt, enter powercfg.cpl, then click Enter on your keyboard or "OK" in the run prompt.
3. In the Power Options window select "High performance".
   • Note: It may be hidden under "Show additional plans".

8. Changing Game Branch & Back

Switching your game branch to another one, then changing back can fix it as shrimple as that. Guide below;

1. Open Steam and navigate to "Library", find SCP: Secret Laboratory.
2. Right click the game -> "Properties" then navigate to "Betas".
   
3. Under "Beta Participation" remember your current branch (may just be None), switch to another branch, then switch back.
   

9. Disabling GeForce Filters

GeForce filters are known to cause performance issues, this has been confirmed by Nvidia as well. Guide below;

1. Open the Nvidia App or Geforce Experience.
   • (Nvidia App is replacing Geforce Experience. if you are still using Geforce Experience, stick to opening that instead)
2. Navigate to Settings -> Features -> Overlay -> toggle off Game Filters and Photo Mode.

10. Disabling AMD FreeSync

1. Open "AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition"
2. Navigate to settings (gear icon at the top right).

   

3. Navigate to the "Display" section and select your main display if you have multiple.
4. Under "Display Options" find the "AMD FreeSync Premium" setting and toggle it off.

11. Reinstall GPU Drivers

1. Please follow this guide to completely remove your GPU drivers.
2. After doing that, follow this guide to reinstall your GPU drivers.
