I keep getting "ERROR! Failed to install app '996560' (No subscription)" error

This error may occur after executing the app_update command in SteamCMD when attempting to install or update your server.

Solutions:

Method 1 - Reinstalling SteamCMD (recommended)
  1. Go to the directory where SteamCMD is installed
  2. Delete either the entire steamcmd folder or just its contents to remove the old installation
  3. Reinstall SteamCMD by following the instructions in here for your operating system (Linux/Windows) 
Method 2 - Signing into a proper Steam account

Note: For security reasons, it is recommended that you create a new Steam account just for your dedicated servers.

  1. Instead of using login anonymous, use login <username> (replace <username> with your actual Steam account name)
  2. Enter your password
  3. If Steam Guard is activated on the user account, check your e-mail for a Steam Guard access code and enter it. This is only required the first time you log in (as well as when you delete the files where SteamCMD stores the login information)
  4. You should see a message stating that you have successfully logged in with your account
