Resolving crash issues

This is a generic guide with resolutions to resolve issues. Following the below instructions will fix a good amount of them, in the case that they dont, please scroll to the bottom of this guide and contact our technical support team.

General solutions

  • Try Launching The Game As Administrator
    • open steam -> library -> right click SCP:SL -> manage -> browse local files -> right click SCPSL.exe and click "run as admin".
  • Switch The Game Branch To Another Available, Then Back To The One You Want (Gif below).

  • Moving The Game To Another Drive.
  • Perform a Clean reinstall Of SCP:SL.
  • Run A Full Antivirus Scan, With Your Software Of Choice.

  • Restart Your PC Entirely.
  • Forcing A Different Graphics API. Steps Below.
    1. Open Steam -> Library -> find "SCP: Secret Laboratory".
    2. Right click -> Properties -> General tab.
    3. Under "Launch Options" try adding -force-d3d12 or -force-d3d11.
  • Other Launch Options.
    1. Open Steam -> Library -> find "SCP: Secret Laboratory".
    2. Right click -> Properties -> General tab.
    3. Under "Launch Options" try adding -httpproxy.
    4. If that does not work, replace -httpproxy with -unitywebrequest.
    5. If that does not work, replace -unitywebrequest with -unitywebrequestdispatcher.
    6. If none work, please remove any of the above launch options!
  • When Launching The Game In Steam Click "RESET ALL SETTINGS".
    1. If this does not show up: Open Steam -> Library -> find "SCP: Secret Laboratory" -> Properties -> General -> change "Selected Launch Option" to "Ask when starting game".
    2. Launch the game and click "Play SCP: Secret Laboratory and RESET ALL SETTINGS".

  • Disable Fullscreen Optimization.
    1. Open Steam -> Library -> find "SCP: Secret Laboratory" -> right click -> Properties -> Manage -> "Browse local files".
    2. Right click SCPSL.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> toggle "Disable fullscreen optimization".
  • Modifying Game Registry In Windows.
    1. First, you will need to make some changes:
      • Turn off Steam Cloud Sync for the game: Right click "SCP: Secret Laboratory" in the steam library -> "Properties" -> "General" tab and toggle off "Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for SCP: Secret Laboratory".

      • Stay in the properties menu and navigate to "Installed Files" -> "Browse...". Find the appdata.bat and double click it, this will open another folder. Simply find and delete the registry.txt file.
    2. Downloadpress SCPSLreg.regwindows button + R and openenter it,regedit, then click "yes",enter and clickor "yes"OK".

    4. On the nextleft prompt.side panel navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Northwood\SCPSL.
    5. In this section you will need to change a few things:
      • Change Screenmanager Fullscreen mode_h3630240806 to 2
      • Change Screenmanager Resolution Height_h2627697771 to 2d0
      • Change Screenmanager Resolution Width_h182942802 to 500
    6. Make sure to save changes, then restart the game.
  • Directly Modifying Game registry.txt File.
    1. Open Steam -> Library -> find "SCP: Secret Laboratory" -> right click -> Properties -> Manage -> "Browse local files".
    2. Run "appdata.bat" (may just be "appdata").
    3. Open the "registry.txt" file.
    4. Search for 07UserSettings_0A50_2000::-%(|:: there will be a number after ::, please change it to 3 as shown below.

      If this line does not exist, add it.

    5. Try running the game, it should start in windowed mode. If it worked, feel free to change your display screen type in game but you need to avoid exclusive full screen! If that does not help, try removing everything in the registry.txt file and just adding the line above.
