I’m getting disconnected from servers with the error “connection lost (timed out)”!
Description of issue
This issue is typically caused by a variety of issues. Notably, issues can occur on the side of the player (client), or the host (server owner). The most important way to figure out which it is, is to communicate with other members of the community server you saw this error on. Do other players experience the same issue? Is it limited to just one community? If so, this community may be experiencing a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, or other issue with their hardware.
Should this issue occur only to you, or across multiple servers. Further debugging will be required.
Ensure your PC meets our minimum system requirements. Your PC specs should match or be more powerful than the current minimum specs on steam. Anything less powerful risks having issues occur simply due to your hardware not being able to keep up with SCP:SL. As well, please ensure you are on an up-to-date version of Windows 11 and other operating systems are not supported at this time.
Resolution steps
-
Go to speedtest.net and run a speed test.
-
If your download or upload speed is below 5-10 Mbps, the issue is likely due to slow internet.
-
- Attempt to Play SCP:SL with a VPN of your choice. Here is our list of VPNs. Should you be able to connect via a VPN, the issue lies with your internet connection - you should contact your internet provider for further assistance.
- Attempt to connect to an Official server. Official servers are required to limit their plugin usage, and maintain specific standards of uptime and capability. This will rule out the issue lying with a specific community or geoblocking from a region.
- Ensure all of your drivers are up-to-date, specifically your GPU drivers. Be certain to restart your PC after any updates.
I still have issues!
